Why Isn't Your Skin Glowing Yet? 5 Mistakes Blocking Your Glass Skin Goals

Ever wondered why your skin still isn’t glowing despite all the effort? Achieving that luminous glass skin look takes more than random products. It takes the right approach.

We spoke to Tess Walls, skin therapist for over 30 years, to uncover the top mistakes stopping your skin from looking its best, and how to fix them.

Watch Tess explain how to choose the best skincare for your skin:

1. Skipping Hydration

If your skin feels tight, dry, or dull, lack of hydration may be the culprit. Hydration is about more than drinking water. It’s about locking moisture into the skin.

Solution: Start with a hydrating cleanser, follow with a toner or lotion, and never skip a hyaluronic serum. This ingredient is essential for glass skin because it binds water to your skin, helping it look plumper and fine lines look smoother.

2. Over-Exfoliating

Exfoliation is key for skin rejuvenation, but too much can damage your barrier and cause irritation.

Solution: Limit strong exfoliants to once or twice a week. For a gentler approach, try a daily retexturising serum to smooth dead skin without over-stripping.

3. Ignoring Your Skin Barrier

If your skin feels rough, red, or sensitive, your protective barrier might be compromised.

Solution: Use a milk cleanser instead of foaming cleansers and pair it with a nourishing moisturiser to restore balance. This step is essential for long-term anti-ageing results.

4. Neglecting Actives That Work

Without the right active ingredients, results are limited. Hydration alone isn’t enough; you also need active ingredients like peptides and antioxidants.

Solution: Identify your top two skin concerns. If wrinkles bother you, choose peptide-rich products. For dullness or uneven tone, look for antioxidants and brightening formulas.

5. Choosing Products Based on Price Over Performance

Some supermarket products contain only small amounts of active ingredients, so you may need to use more and wait longer for visible results.

Professional skincare, on the other hand, is usually formulated with higher concentrations of active ingredients, chosen for visible results with regular use.

Solution: If you can only invest in one product, make it a hyaluronic serum. It deeply hydrates, helps smooth the look of fine lines and prepares your skin for everything else in your routine.
